History of the Rathangan Lughnasa Festival
The idea of Lughnasa back in 2004 was simply to have a music concert in our hometown of Rathangan. As general interest grew within our community, it turned this idea into a full 5 day Music & Arts Festival running throughout the August Bank Holiday Weekend. These 5 day events included something for everyone, young and old.
Over the past 5 years, the Rathangan Lughnasa Festival have had some major performance held by such artists as Gerry Fish & The Mudbug Club, The Walls, Jack L, Damien Dempsey, The Blizzards, Fred, TKO, John Spillane, Don Baker, Luka Bloom, The Café Orchestra, ‘Duo’ along with others. This weekend has also allowed for Rathangan local bands to show off their talents, such as Lemon, Toss & Turn, Some State, Freefall, Louisiana Frances & many more.
Along with all our musical events, young children & families are catered for during the weekend with our Family Day (professional clowns, face painting, fancy dress disco, etc), BBQ, Street Entertainment (Bui Bolg, Fire throwing, etc), Arts & Crafts, Photography and Busking on the street! These events are held throughout the whole weekend are enjoyed immensely!
Due to the huge success of the festival over the past 5 years, we are delighted to announce that there will be a Rathangan Lughnasa Festival 2009. As the festival is continuously support by its local businesses & sponsors, it has allowed this festival to grow from strength to strength and it is for this we, the committee are very grateful.
So it is with great importance, that whether it is music, arts, craft, photography or family days that are of interest to you, if you come along to experience our festival, you will not be left disappointed and it will be one of the best weekends you’ll have!
Have a ‘Lovely Lughnasa’
